Recognition Calculation

Badges are given to the products with the average review rating score above 4.5 across all of the products' published reviews in the submission period.  Only the ratings of review field that the specific badge represents will be considered.  For example, "Best Value" will consider only the user ratings for Value for money.

We target to distinguish top 25% of qualified products in a given category for each "Best" recognition.  However, given "category fit" confirmation, as described above, the number of recognized products may fluctuate.

Our calculation looks at the average score for a particular field (Ease of Use, Value for Money), and calculates the top 25% of all qualified products.  Since the cutoff is fixed, we never recognize more than the top 25% .  We do have cases where we recognized less than top 25%:

"Best" badges will be awarded in additional categories over time.

Recognition Qualification

Category fit:  The product must be confirmed by our Research analysts as relevant and applicable to the respective category.

Review rating count:  In order for a product to qualify for a “Best” badge the product must have a minimum of ten published review rating scores (i.e. for the rating field that the specific badge represents) in the submission period.  The submission period is defined as the 12 months prior to the badge eligibility cut-off date.  Badge eligibility cut-off date varies across categories and aligns with when badges are initially released and then subsequently refreshed.

Published reviews:  The “Best” badge’s applicable review rating count criteria will only consider published reviews.  To be published each review must pass our validation, quality, and non-duplication processes.  Please see our reviews guidelines here

Past Recognition Calculation

Badges are given to the products with the highest average review ratings score across all of the products' published reviews in submission period.  Only the ratings of review field that the specific badges represents will be considered.  For example, "Best Support" will consider only the user ratings for customer support.

Average review rating scores are rounded to two decimals places before badge award winners are determined:  In the case that multiple distinct products have the same average review rating score, the tie will be broken based on the number of reviews published during the submission period.  The vendor with more reviews during the period will receive the higher rank.  In the case that multiple products have the same average score and the same number of published reviews in the submission period, each product will receive a badge.

We target to distinguish ten products in a given category for each "Best " recognition.  However, given "category fit" confirmation and tie-breaking rules, as described above, the number of recognized products may deviate from ten.

If a product is in the top 25%, but the average score is less than 4.5 - that product is not eligible to get the award.

If a product is considered "not-a-fit" for a category where they placed in top 25% - that product won't be recognized.

Ties are not an issue in this new methodology; as long as the product met the winning criteria, they get the award.
