Finding the right software is hard. Reviews help. But often finding the right reviews can be difficult too. End users need assistance in identifying the highest rated software for features and attributes that they care most about. Enter Capterra’s “Best” badges.

Capterra has over 400,000 vetted user reviews spanning its 400+ software categories. The “Best” badges synthesize these reviews to recognize the most highly-rated products by users in a given software category.

The badges are based on select review rating fields.  You can earn "Best" badges for the following recognitions:

Which software categories have badges?

A number of factors are used to determine the software categories in which the “Best” badges will be awarded, such as category popularity, product breadth, and review volume. These factors will evolve over time and focus on providing the most help to the greatest number of end users who seek guidance on software product selection and purchase.

At present we plan to refresh each category’s badges at least once a year. The timing of each market’s refresh will relate to its initial release date. Capterra reserves the right to increase or decrease the frequency and timing of badge refreshes as well as cease the awarding of badges for markets that no longer meet the aforementioned market criteria.

For how long is the badge valid?

Capterra Research analysts evaluate each product for relevance and applicability to its category. Products that do not meet this criteria will not be eligible to receive a “Best” badge.

How will you eliminate products that don’t belong in a given category?

Will only products in Capterra's Top 20 reports be allowed to win a badge?

No. Please see our methodology for details on “Best” badge qualification and recognition criteria. There is no intentional relationship between software products featured on Top 20 and those who win “Best” badges.

Will the qualification and/or recognition methodology change across categories and/or over time?

While there are no current plans to change the recognition methodology Capterra reserves the right to change methodology at any time in order to help vendors better differentiate their products and end users discover and purchase software.

How can I use the "Best" designation in promotional materials or press releases?

What is the "Best" award methodology?

Can a product "opt in" or "opt out" of the "Best" awards?

No. Products are included in “Best” recognition only if they meet category definition and product qualification criteria. If a product meets the criteria, our process requires that it be evaluated for “Best” recognition. If a product does not meet the criteria, it will not be included for “Best” recognition consideration. Vendors therefore cannot choose to either “opt in” or “opt out.” However, it is optional for winning products to include their “Best” badge on their website and/or in their marketing. If they so choose to include it, all use must meet the parameter of the Vendor External Use Guidelines.

What safeguards are in place to prevent vendors from "gaming" the review process?

All end user-submitted reviews are reviewed individually and are validated before publishing. Reviews that do not meet the review guidelines are not published or included in “Best” qualification and recognition.

How can vendors improve their product's rating position?

Vendor’s can recruit users to submit reviews on any of the Gartner Digital Markets (,, sites and/or through free Reviews as a Service program.

No. Being a Gartner or Gartner Digital Markets client doesn’t influence product qualification or inclusion for any “Best” badge. Products are evaluated equally regardless of whether or not a provider is a client of Capterra, Gartner Digital Markets or Gartner in general.

Does being a Gartner or Capterra client influence qualifying for or winning a "Best" badge?

Yes. End user reviews for “Best of” badges are collected and aggregated from all Gartner Digital Markets (GDM) sites (,,; therefore any reviews submitted to any GDM site will be included in “Best of” qualification for all categories that have “Best of” badges designated.

Sometimes content from a review will be considered in multiple categories, depending on the definition of the categories.

What if we recruit negative reviews - can we remove them?

No. We do not remove reviews unless the review doesn’t meet our quality standards and publishing criteria. You may report an issue by contacting our reviews team at

If I recruit user reviews on Software Advice or GetApp, will that still help my potential qualification and/or likelihood to win a "Best of" badge?

What if I recruit a review to my product profile for a different category or market? Will that be included?

You may quote or display your product’s “Best” award for only the category in which the badge was awarded.

You may quote or display your product’s “Best” badge with or without an excerpted review comment or review statistic. Beyond the curated review comment or review statistic that will be awarded to badge winners, you may also quote and display alternative review comments for your product. Any review comment quoting must adhere to these Vendor External Use Guidelines.

You may not compare your company’s review rating scores directly or indirectly against any other competitive product, or use the Capterra “Best” award and/or review comments to criticize a competitor.

You may not imply that the “Best” award is the same as, or similar, to Capterra’s Top 20 awards or any other Capterra, Gartner, or Gartner affiliated companies’ awards

You may not imply that the “Best” award is the result of Gartner Research evaluation or display it next to Gartner Research.

Except in digital media with character limitations (e.g. Twitter), the following disclaimer must appear with any/all “Best” award references and graphic use:

The "Best" badges aid in end users' software research and enable them to make more informed purchase decisions.  

Use of the "Best" badges must comply with these guidelines.

You may include the “Best” award in your reprint promotional materials of published Gartner research (e.g., Magic Quadrant or Critical Capabilities landing pages) only if you make it clear that the "Best" award is not based on Gartner Research evaluations.

Proper "Best" Badge Logo Usage:

The Capterra “Best” logo is a trademark and service mark of Gartner Inc. and/or its affiliates and may only be used after securing express, written permission.

When using the “Best” badge in promotional materials, you must provide a link to the “Best” methodology page so that end users have full and proper context.

You cannot alter or modify the Capterra “Best” badge image, or place additional visuals/text on top of the badge that would somehow alter or obscure the designation.

You must include the required clear space around the Capterra “Best” logo.

Your logo must be the primary image (relative to both size and positioning) in your promotional materials.

The Capterra “Best” logo must be secondary in position to your logo and at least 10% smaller in size.

The Capterra “Best” logo may not be placed next to, or bundled with, your logo or any other logos.

The Capterra “Best” logo may not appear in your press release, email signature stamp or securities offering documents (including annual reports)..
